We got quite a few E-Mails about Friday's "New Pope" strip. Some points...
1.) Please do not take it as a commentary on the new Pope. We rarely attempt any sort of commentary in SORE THUMBS, and this is no exception. I don't know how Owen feels, but speaking as the writer of the strip in question, I have no real feelings for or against the new Pope (but I thought the last Pope was pretty awesome). I do not believe he is the second coming of Hitler. Fairbanks is imagining him as such because he is a delusional idiot. And he is not a delusional idiot because he is a conservative, he is a delusional idiot because he's nuts and he's not very smart.
2.) Many of our German-speaking readers were kind enough to point out some speechographical errors in the Hitler Pope's German talk. Thank you, German readers, but instead of taking responsibility for those errors I will say that Fairbanks' brain uses Babelfish to imagine German people talk. It's all part of the fun of visiting Fairbanks' mind. For non-Germans, here's what the Pope was saying: "The reign of terror of the liberals are over! I have murdered the man known as John Kerry and taken his head! I hold this head in my hands as I scream! God bless America, yo!"

Big news! Sore thumbs has been nominated in the 27th annual Laymamerican Idol competition.
It actually started last week and we just barely slipped by. Feel free to slide over there and harass lyrical ninja John Layman with Sore Thumb votes. The prize we will win is valuable beyond all imagination, and I'll share it with all of you if we win.
That said, to win a blog competition I'll have to probably actually "blog" more than once every two months.
Anyway there will be two blogs eliminated each Thursday, so if you could vote before then, that would be swell.
