PARKER!!!!!!

Spider Man 2 is just about perfect. Everyone has probably seen it or will see it by the weekend so there's nothing to say really. It's nice when a big budget mega-hyped film comes through for you though.
It's just too bad we have to wait another 2 years for another hit. I actually like the film continuity better than any ultimate/cartoon/marvel age or whatever. It's streamlined but keeps the best stuff.
If I were setting up the next couple flicks I'd go;

Spidey 3- Hobgoblin/Green Goblin 2 with Gwen Stacy. Gwen's an important part of spidey history and they should use her in some way.

Spidey 4- I'd give spidey the black suit (from space) and adapt Kraven's Last Hunt. I'd replace Vermin with the Lizard though, cuz Conners is part of the movie cannon already.

Spidey 5- Venomize it!

See? That would work, right? I should get a producer credit. :)
I'll write again soon gang, I've got news about my second online webcomic! Well, for one month only anyway.

Canadian Election Special

I voted for the first time ever today. Chris Crosby is to blame for my new found political awareness.
It was interesting. Very easy. Everyone seemed pretty uptight though, I would have liked some music or free orange drink or something. If the whole thing was more like a party more people would vote, I'm sure of it.
I wonder if booze and voting are a good mix? :)

Those dudes at readers are a swell bunch of guys. I've been meaning to give a link to their awesome comic book info and review site comicreaders .

I got my copies of the Sore Thumbs Free Comic Book Day issue in the mail this week. It's a nice cute little book. I'm really happy with how it came out and I hope everyone who wants one can find a copy. It's always nice to see your own work in print, it makes it much easier to look at your work objectively. I'm a little more sure now about the things I need to work on. It's nice.
I haven't written much lately but you aren't missing much. I have very little of importance to say.

-- I was heartbroken when the Calgary Flames lost game 7 of the Stanely Cup. Mostly because I believed the reason they were in the final at all was because of my magical pre-game ritual behavior. Alas, my supernatural luck powers proved non existent. I am just an ordinary schmoe. :(

--Chronicles of Riddick was a little silly for my tastes, but just barely. I loved Pitch Black, and I'll see any movie that David Twohy directs. I believe in him, just like I believe in Steven Sommers, even if Van Helsing wasn't perfect. Next time boys, don't give up.

-- Harry Potter 3 was cool though. Especially David Thewlis as Lupin.

--Haven't rented a game in forever, Dying to play Onimusha 3, Front Mission 4, and Psi ops.
One day I will have money. One day....

--Currently reading Ray Bradbury. Old school awesomeness. Martian Chronicles.

Owen and I are Democrats?

In the spirit of linking to bad reviews of SORE THUMBS, here's another one.

I don't like to comment on reviews, but I'll quickly clear up one factual error the reviewer made ("Owen Gieni and Chris Crosby are pretty much standard Democrats."): Neither Owen nor myself are Democrats. I'm an independent who dislikes the Democratic Party in general (though that's probably true of a lot of actual Democrats these days), and Owen is a Canadian. I don't think it's even possible for Canadians to be Democrats. Maybe he is a Democrat in a parallel universe.

Okay, I'll comment more. It seems the reviewer basically didn't like the comic because she doesn't think the political humor is intelligent or witty. While I am trying to write a witty comic in general, I'm not striving to write intelligent political humor. Every one of the characters is so extreme and/or stupid, that would be hard. Fairbanks makes Archie Bunker look like... um... a sane conservative (take your pick).

One person recently wrote me saying "You do know most conservatives aren't as hateful as Fairbanks, right? Love your comic by the way." Thank you, and yes, I know that. Fairbanks isn't supposed to be our view of a conservative. He isn't even supposed to be a SATIRE of a conservative. He's actually a satire of a satire of a satire (of a satire) of a conservative. He's about as politically relevant as Plastic Man. Just like this comic strip.

SORE THUMBS may be "political" (much like it is "gaming"), but it's not a platform for mine or Owen's political views. For the most part, anyway. If a character says they hate George W. Bush (my one strong political opinion), I definitely agree with that. But I don't think it's happened yet. If SORE THUMBS were about my political beliefs, every strip would feature a character defacing a photo of George W. Bush in a new and disgusting way.

My focus is not on political commentary, but on the characters and the funny. Not that either of those things are guaranteed to please everyone, either. But they're my focus. If you want to read a comic strip with intelligent political commentary, try MALLARD FILMORE.

(Thankfully, we AREN'T the lowest-graded review of the month at SEQUENTIAL TART. We might've only gotten a 4/10, but Marvel's THE PULSE #2 got a 2/10! Ha ha! Take THAT, Bendis and Bagley!)

BREAKING NEWS from DAILY VARIETY: "Michael Moore's 'Fahrenheit 9/11' has landed a domestic distribution deal in time to spark plenty of July 4 and pre-election fireworks. Palme D'Or winner will be released June 25, on U.S. screens through a joint venture between Lions Gate Films, IFC Films and Harvey and Bob Weinstein's Fellowship Adventure Group."

Once again, my faith in America is renewed anew.
