If you want more evidence of what sort of person Curious George is, just look to the Darwinian nightmare that is his family tree. But no, she's not evil, just stupid and ignorant. The real evil here is that little blurbs like these never make it into the international news at the end of the day. I would LOVE to watch Curious George squirm as he tries to explain away or defend his mother over this, but apparently his family is exempt from being accountable for anything they say.
By the way, is it just me, or is this evacuation still taking too damn long? Now before you all snap my head off, it's not because I'm impatient - I just thought that with the immense list of resources and personel at the disposal of the federal gouvernment, most of the people would be out of the city by now. After September 11th, 2001, they've talked about improving the way the gouvernment can respond to a crisis of similar magnitude. They said that they were ready for biological attacks, missle attacks, 747's, trucks packed with explosives, and that the emergency response in such a situation would be astonishingly swift and unprecedented.
So about the only thing that this administration has done that it promised it would do is keep the gays from marrying in the immediate future? This is pretty fucking pathetic, and I really wish I could do more to help than just drop my change in a cup or food and clothes in a box when I buy my groceries. I bitch about it here, but it doesn't really help, does it?
Always assume nothing.
Always question everything.
Always believe in something,
just not me,
and always remember Katrina 2005.

I was born in Houston, and I can tell you that, compared to a fetid fishbowl fille with floating feces and corpses, it is pretty hospitable. But only by comparison.

God, the blame game is being played to DEATH here...
It's sad, because all of this mud slinging is making me LESS sympathetic for the poor souls in Louisiana, Missisipi, and Alabama.
Fuck Democrats, fuck Republicans. I used to give a shit, but now I realize that all of this bigotry and picture captioning and blame gaming is accomplishing nothing but pushing away the common citizen.
When will the time come in America when a disaster along the same scale as Katrina bring people closer together rather than seperate us even more than we already are?
The Bush's aren't racists. Barbara Bush is how old now? Her statements are probably just the product of her seniality. It pisses me off when people from New Orleans are claiming that the government is trying to make all the blackies kill each other by not sending in help.
And the right wing people need to stop being assholes and trying to move the blame away from them. As President, Bush needs to do the honorable thing and take responsibility for the actions of those under him, including the local Louisiana government.
YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE PAST. NO AMOUNT OF BICKERING AND SHIT SLINGING AND PICTURE CAPTIONING AND OUT OF CONTEXT QUOTING WILL REALLY MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS. MICHAEL MOORE, BILL O'REILEY, RUSH LIMBAUGH, AL FRANKEN, YOU GUYS CAN SUCK MY HAIRY BALLS. YOU AIN'T DOING NOTHING TO HELP OUR COUNTRY. RIGHT NOW ISN'T THE GODDAMN TIME TO DECIDED WHO'S RESPONSIBLE. WHAT WILL IT ACCOMPLISH?? AB-SO-FUCKING-LUTELY NOTHING.
Mr. Chris Crosby, you posting this info about Barbara Bush isn't really interesting, and all it does is convince me even more that right now, everyone is trying to use this opportunity to find something to bash someone over. And lamenting on the slow response in the past only makes your current response SLOWER.
Goddammit politics really pissed me off this year. I used to think being apathetic about our government system is silly and trite. Now I'm not so sure.
FUCK. FUCK. FUCK. FUCK.
Fuck the idiots who decided to stay behind and "weather the storm".
Fuck the media for focusing on the fucking blame game.
Fuck the people looking for someone to be angry at.
I am tired and can't sleep.
FUCK THIS SHIT. Jesus!

Blaming is not a game. It is deadly serious.
The reason to apportion blame NOW:
Back in February, a member of the House of Representatives noticed that Brown, director of FEMA, had given $30 million + in relief money for one of last years hurricanes to... a county that hadn't been hit. The Rep requested Brown be fired and replaced by someone more competent.
No action was taken. The incompetent remained. And 6 months later, fresh incompetence has not only wasted money but lives.
Now, I like a non-partisan review of blame. I want to know why there wasn't someone sending people to drive people out in school busses. That's something that could have been done locally.
But the thing is, the police, the mayor, the firemen, the nurses, all have day to day work to do. FEMA is all about emergency management. The leadership there is supposed to know risks, know where to look for assets, know how to improvise, etc, etc. FEMA has, in the past, managed much better.
And when bloggers point out issues that should be looked into (this really isn't one of them-- it is a PR gaffe and we don't really have to fix that kind of political mistake) such as communication lines getting cut, the ethics of threats of prosecution of people who stole water and food for the stranded, water supplies stopped at road blocks, and so on, they are simply pointing out a path for eventual official analysis IN ORDER THAT PAST MISTAKES NOT BE REPEATED. Bloggers themselves have no authority, nor have they ability to assist in the rescue. So when you rant about how bloggers are slowing things down by blaming people, ask yourself, what else are they supposed to do?
Bloggers are serving as the "Watchdogs" that the mainstream press once theoretically did. Watchdogs bark.

What Chris said. The current administration has gotten really good at deflecting a lot of the blame and the responsibility for these types of situations among others. Katrina was an act of God, so the only thing that anyone can be blamed for here is inexcusably slow response of FEMA and any idiot down there looting, raping and pillaging like it's 'Pirates of the Carribean'. Seriously , I hope the former of the two responsible at least get fired, and that the latter of the two are caught in the act and lynched to death.
Now, as far as 9/11 goes, there have been a LOT of foreign relations blunders going back even to revolutionary times, but hindsight is twenty-twenty. That is part of the reason that many seem to believe that the U.S cares nothing for anyone outside its own borders unless they have oil. Total bullshit to be sure, and how do you really appologize or even begin to make amends for much of the religious and political strife that exsists?
However, there is something rather curious that bears mentioning - Condie, the current U.S Secretary of State if I'm not mistaken, that in her previous job, ignored a report that she herself recalls to be titled 'Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the U.S', or something like that. Now, you can't blame her for the actions of extremists and brainwashed fanatics, but I've always wondered why she was promoted after a blunder of almost criminal proportions. Gouvernment officials are elected by people who believe that they will do their best to look after them, Hell, it's a part of their job, and Condie didn't do that as well as she probably should have.
Another example of dodging their responsibility for their screw-ups is the medal of freedom. I've never heard of it, but it sounds more like something that should have been given to veterans of the world wars and not used as a political smokescreen. Really, what the Hell else could it be? Or am I just being too jaded and cynical?
Babs Bush? If she were senile, her family wouldn't let her out of her house. Old or not, that was pretty insensitive and stupid of her to have said.
Michael Moore? Yeah, fuck him, he's only trying to get rich as near as I can tell, and we don't need another loud, rich, white American.
Really, it's been drilled into our heads growing up that you need to accept responsibility for your actions, and dodging it just makes you cowardly and dishonorable. I guess after Vietnam, Curious George must have gotten hooked on the whole 'dodging' thing, huh?

As a Texas native, it really feeds my ego to hear "Texas is awesome, great. Just a bunch of friendly folks, nothing but smiles," on the news frequently. I don't care who you are, I welcome you to our great state with open arms and a warm meal. Sure our schools are over crowded, but why don't we employ all the displaced teachers, too? Good gravy John Henry, it's not like we need to hold a town meeting over it like in New Hampshire...
Where I live, a Bush reference is met with a shake of the head and something that starts with, "Bless his heart, but..." For those who don't know, it's the Texan way of saying, "That idiot, he..."

George Bush cause the hurricane by using a US Military Satelight designed to heat ocean water by microwaving it from space!
On a serious note, an area the size of ENGLAND was decimated by this hurricane. Places other than New Orlenes took a week to get any sort of aid.
BTW, Bush did declare a national disastor and had all the paperwork done 2 days before Katrina hit. Beyond that...there's a huge list of people at fault going all the way back to 60s of misused funds, burocracy, and other general stupidity when looking at things in hindsight.
In the end, the American mentality "It can't happen to me" has collectivly shot ourselves in the foot.

Once again, a misconception brought on by the obviously liberal media not playing the whole statement that Mrs. Bush said.
I'm not a Bush upporter, but I'm also not a supporter of misinformation either.
I don't know the whole quote, but she SAID that even though what happened to the people who fled to Texas was tragic, many of them wanted to stay in Texas, so them having COME TO TEXAS "is working out very very well for them".
Thank you for misquoting along with the empty heads on TV, Mr. Crosby.

The exact quote by Barbara Bush can be found (like any other suspected legend on the net) at Snopes.com:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/barbara2.asp
So as you can see, she really WAS talking about the Astrodome. Now, there's another similar "I have no interest in anyones well being but my own"-kind of quote by Mrs. Bush, that can be found here:

So, a good advice for everyone is to CHECK THE FACTS before making a fool of themselves. Thanks.

Even so, I doubt she's a woman that's ever been cold, hungry or penniless in her entire life. I don't wanna hear about what some old, rich person like that thinks of how 'the little people' are coping with a disaster like Katrina. I more or less still stand by my earlier comments.
Oh, and it's kind of nice how the Iraq fiasco has blown over after Katrina, huh? Seriously, it's been clogging our noses and burning our eyes for the last six years - Do we have to taste it too before we realize what it is that Curious George is really about? Starts with a 'b.......'

uh... cut her some slack? Of course it's working out well for them, they're in a relief centre instead of on ruined streets. Why shouldn't she refer to the fact that the relief centre might be better living for some of them than their past lives if they were destitute? Is she not allowed to lighten the mood or attempt to console without "liberal" paparazzi painting red anything she says. Just because she's richer, it doesn't take away her freedom to refer to people as collectives- how can anyone claim for certain she was calling them "little people?"
Ok, the administration made a lot of mistakes that they probably shouldn't have. Welcome to the 21st century. Bureaucracy is the thief of charity, but I'm sure many of the "liberals" commenting here would prefer to see their tax dollars cut into little pieces by the government and advertised chairty organisations than walk in to any of those awful, awful churches and just give to the poor from their pockets. If you want a society where the poor are protected properly, we need to go back to tribalism (where women work at home!) or medievalism (where, shock horror, you might pay taxes to someone you weren't brainwashed into voting for). Bush and the Republican government aren't alone in wasting tax dollars: that is what happens in all democracies all over the world.
