That may well have been the best cinematic experience of my life. Thing is, it was sold out the first two days I tried to see it. So the third time, I took no chances

I can't believe anybody would watch a movie with that name. Sin is a bad thing, people. It gets you sent to hell. Your souls are probably tainted just from watching that stupid movie.
By , at 2:52 AM
As long as it's tainted for watching that movie, and not killing those three people and stuffing them in Hefty bags to throw in the river.
By , at 5:27 PM
When will people learn? Dropping bodies into a river is bad for business. Too many people want to find out who's polluting the environment. What you should do, find a nice public bathroom, burn the corpses in their and then give everything a quick bleach-over. No incriminating evidence and no pesky corpse.
It's win/win.
By , at 8:34 PM
Obviously murder is worse than watching this movie, but what need is there to taint your soul at all?
By , at 2:20 AM
But it's fun to taint your soul, and besides, didn't Adam and Eve already fuck that up eons ago? You're damned even if you don't, so why not have some fun before the obligatory plunge into eternal hellfire?
By , at 5:53 AM
Why shouldn't we taint our souls?
Euther the above is correct and we're already screwed because of two mythical beings from the beginning of man, or we simply fail because of the ethical fallacies in the 10 Commandments or God is going to forgive us anyway, being all merciful and that.
And there you have it; a neat little argument that explains why it's okay to kill those annoying neighbours. From a moral standpoint.
By , at 9:18 AM
What rubbish. We are given the opportunity to repent for the errors of those "mythical" beings, but repentence is hardly done in a heartfeld fashion if you're willing to taint your souls further. God is merciful, but I'm afraid that you are hellbound if you remain a wanton sinner.
As for your claims of ethical fallacies in the 10 commandments, they are flawed in the assumption that such fallacies exist.
By , at 1:40 AM
Yeah, yo, people who like to knock other people's religions generally have poorly thought out aurguments if any aurgument at all.
Hey I just read this, but did you know the Catholic church offically finds the Big Bang to be in accordance with the Bible?
By , at 8:35 AM
Sin City? One of the better movies I've seen in awhile, and a nice change from all of the copycat thriller/horror movies.
I'm gonna stay out of anything having to do with religion. I'm just going to live my life and not let anyone else tell me what is sinful and what's not. I couldn't really care less what people think about me, because that would imply that I cared in the first place.
I'll let whoever's really in charge pass judgement on me, but personally, I think Hell would be being sent back here a second time.
Always assume nothing.
Always question everything.
Always believe in something,
just not me.

religion was only brought into this conversation because of the word "sin" in the title.
just shows that people peddle God where they can and where they think it applies.
on the topic of sincity, i really want to see it, it looks awesome. i just need to find the time.

Sin City was definitely a good movie. I really enjoyed all the original elements they incorporated. It has nothing to do with religion, and watching it doesn't break a single commandment. If you want to preach your religion, do it somewhere else. This is a webcomic blog.
By , at 6:25 AM
Hey, my arguments against religion are very well thought out. I find the whole concept of hell completely at odds with their concept of God, but as is I just like to provoke people who want to attack someone for watching a movie.
I love Christians. They're so funny.
By , at 9:32 PM
Your argument against Christianity was badly thought out. Their concept of God is not some omnipotent guy who is always happy and says "oh well, whatever you're forgiven." There is frequent talk of wrath and of vengeance and of dire consequences to incorrect action. It is an integral aspect of Christianity. I think you've just been listening too much to the lovey dovey Christians who sing bad songs and are more interested in blissful naivety than the difficult issues of their faith.
The guy who first brought religion up sounds like a troll to me, by the way. Nobody is that stupid. Well, maybe mormons, but he could hardly be a mormon could he?
By , at 11:13 PM
Moreover: by Christian thinking, Jesus died on the cross to pay for the sin of Adam and Eve, so we aren't automatically screwed for their actions. That is part of the merciful aspect of their God. The other part is that he will forgive the sins of the TRULY repentent (not repentent out of fear on the death bed, not repentent to clear yesterday's sins and start sinning again tomorrow,) as the guy above said. It does not follow that he automatically forgives everything.
By , at 11:18 PM
Dude, you're talking like an obtuse bigot. "I like Christians. They're funny."
If you said the same thing about Jews or even Muslims you'd be served for lunch at the next democratic nation convention. This has nothing to do with being Christian and everything to do with your obvious and unthinking bias against anyone who believes in anything. I'm sure you're all into anti-categorization, but you're already categorizing Christians into simple easy to understand over-simplification based on half-truths and specific fringe element examples.
You're nothing but a weak lazy mind that would rather drop people into simple groups rather that use your brain to figure something out; like all bigots. It's doesn't make you evil or anything special, but so typical that I can already feel a yawn coming on just thinking about you.
By , at 5:03 AM
Just guessing, since I haven't been to church in awhile, but isn't your baptismal supposed to wash you clean of the original sin? Again, not sure, since I'm recalling something from quite awhile ago, so please feel free to correct me...
As for the troll (swallows just to kill some time) who mentioned that we're going to hell for watching that movie, I don't remember reading 'abandon hope, all ye who enter' anywhere on my way in, so we're probably safe.
By , at 6:47 AM
In a way, I am an obtuse bigot. I generally dislike Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, whatever religion you care to name. But to call me narrow minded and say I'm uneducated is funny in itself, seeing as I have a Master's degree in philosophy and a Bachelor's in Religion and Society. One of my dearest friends is a Christian -- one of the few whose beliefs I genuinely respect.
My comments above were mostly mockery. My disagreement with any religious ideology lies with the fact that I believe I owe them nothing, and therefore them morally judging me is ludicrous. Well, it's more founded on my atheism but whatever floats your boat, eh?
I just figured why waste my time and education in a blog when simple bigoted mockery would give me just as big a thrill with much less effort.
You accuse me of categorising, but you've all done the same. For shame, people. At least one thing tht Jesus very strongly disliked was hypocrasy. See, I have studied the Bible, so my atheism is founded a little stronger than the stock standard atheist, whom I despise as much as if not more than the standard Christian. At least the stock standard Christian doesn't think themselves smarter for believing what they do. Well, generally.
But look at all the time and effort that's gone into this. This isn't the place for a deep debate on the matter, so I didn't intend to start one. Still, I give credit where credit is due; had I been the standard bigot I probably would have been shut down by now. Well played, peoples.
By , at 6:47 AM
A gay secret agent? Could be the best punch-line I've ever read here, and Owen really should pitch that as a movie idea, it'd be 'fabulous'! Plus it'd easily beat the crap out of about 90% of the movies that came out over the last five years.
By , at 6:53 AM
I think, Butch, the categorisation was well founded. If somebody says "lightbulbs work because of fairies that sit inside the bulb that glow when you tell them to," and somebody says that he's wrong and must be pretty ignorant on the subject, he doesn't really have much ground to say "hey I knew that, I'm an electrician. You shouldn't jump to conclusions!"
Anyway, the topic has now exhausted itself.
By , at 1:08 PM
Yeah, I did categorize bigots and called you one. I'm sure that many bigots have well thought ideas that are both elaborate and convincing. Perhaps they've gone through a series of rationalizations to arrive at the over-simplification that they wanted in the first place.
Education doesn't mean shit by the way. I never wrote nor implied that you were uneducated.
It doesn't matter if one of your dearest friends is a Christian or not. Lots of bigots have friends of the people that they irrationally hate or marginalize.
In any event, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you're just being lazy on this blog and that what you really meant to say was, "Most of the people who I have met that have advertised they were Christian, I have found myself disliking."
Throwing up Jesus at me doesn't work, because I've done nothing to make this discussion anything but secular.
I'll toss out an alternate theory for why you like to bash Christians (and other religions and you dubiously claim, but you wouldn’t dare do that, that would threaten the idea of multiculturalism that you’ve demonstrated you could not possibly support, but I’m sure pay a great deal of lip-service to). Because it's popular now. You desperately want to be seen a person with original relevant ideas to the groups that you engage in your intellectual circle jerks with. But what you actually are is a bore with not one original idea that I’ve seen so far.
By , at 5:46 AM
Yeeeah...so how 'bout this webcomic?
By , at 8:41 PM
Ignoring whether or not his ideas are "original", I must say that at least it seems that he has looked over all of his ideas and dicided for himself which to accept and which to reject. As long as someone does that, it makes me happy. It also makes me happy to hear another who dislikes people who take positions without thought. (I am including atheists in that sentence, as in my experience they tend to be even more arrogant than your average religious person)
By , at 8:57 PM
While athiests may be, on average, somewhat arrogant and even condescending, the one important difference is that the decidedly "good" athiests (ie; the ones that don't give athiesm a bad name) don't force their opinions and beliefs (or lack thereof) on others.
On the other hand, most religions are not only accepting, but ENCOURAGING of forcing your beliefs and morals on others, as well as a great deal more condescendance.
So lets not get into who is worse; athiests or religious.
By , at 10:39 AM
Most of the critisisms that are directed at the church now are anachronisms at best.
The modern church is not forcing it's believes on anyone. Perhaps, in an abstract way, but critics of religion like to point to things that the church has done in the past and entirely ignore what it does now.
I suppose you can say that parents force their believes on children, but yeah, parents tend to do that. Let's make a law preventing it!
By , at 4:50 AM
Let's kill all the conservative republicans who were in favor of the war in Iraq.
By , at 3:48 PM
When we say "modern church" which church are we referring to? Mormons? Jehovas? Christians? All still employ door-to-door tactics to try to convince you to convert. This is definitely "forcing" their religion on you, as they are coming to YOUR home, invading your privacy and preaching their beliefs, which is really the most they legally CAN do. not to mention, if you had any interest in their religion of choice in the first place you'd probably have made your decision by then (nobody decides to become a Jehova's Witness and says "OK, I'll just wait at home for an indefinite period until some witnesses show up to convert me!)
I forsee someday soon, telemarketing Jehovas Witnesses. Nobody will be safe.
By , at 7:56 PM
In the future, we will have telemarketing 'deciples of God'. No one will be safe, no one...
