Cheney on "most Tuesdays"
Posted By Chris Crosby at 2:07 PM
Everybody's focused on the "Cheney never met Edwards" lie from Tuesday's debate, but I thought the bigger and more important lie Cheney told was said right before that: "Now, in my capacity as vice president, I am the president of Senate, the presiding officer. I'm up in the Senate most Tuesdays when they're in session."

Yet a record of the Senate's Acting Presidents since 2001 shows that Cheney presided over the Senate only TWO times the past four years, not "most Tuesdays"... and two just happens to be the same number of times that Senator John Edwards has also presided over the Senate. Cheney's been "AWOL" from his job as Senate President for most of his term!

(In the Senate, if the VP isn't there, they appoint an Acting President as their first order of business. Which means Cheney's only showed up at all twice.)

Two lies in the same breath, just to get a zinger against Edwards in a VP debate that historically means very little in terms of who will win the election. Jesus, Cheney SUCKS. * 28 comments

ZING!

Are you really surprised? Do you expect something more, like honesty? HAHAHAHAHA no from George W & Co

Cheney certainly is petty, but does anyone realise how little the Bush administration is really trying? That's what I find disturbing. Either they're relying on their support from terrified housewives and religious conservatives to elect them legitemately, or they've already won and we just don't know it.

I think November will be interesting.

have you looked at those reports? they also say that he was often their observing outside hos "official capacity". NOT that he was almost never their. Still, not as much as i would like him their, but more than people are being led to believe. as for the little Edwards-cheney never met thing, edwards is a VERY forgettable person, quite frankly, and i wouldn't be surprised if his wife forgot knowing he was from time to time.

I am not a conservitive, I am not a libral. I speak the truth. This country goes to hell if kerry is elected. It's not going to be much better if bush is elected.

Vote Lucifer Morningstar 2004! You definitelly know what your getting!

Accepting your skewed view of the world of politics for the moment, even IF America's going to Hell either way, wouldn't you at least like to go there with friends?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:33 PM

I'm a Canadian, and I don't want to go to hell with Americans. Choose Kerry so you can go to hell alone.

you fucking lying liberal chris crosby...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:37 AM

Anyone ever notice that conservatives are usually the first to start cursing? Like they can't rely on wit or logic to get their views across? Also, I find it disturbing that anyone believes them after all Bush has said and done.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 7:17 AM

OMG kery is teh sux!!!!11

If Kerry wins all liberals should put their face in a blender and then stretch it out beyond recognition to look like their leader... o_O

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:09 AM

If Bush wins all conservatives should have a lobotomy.

Oh wait...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:24 AM

Actually, I've noticed a tendancy towards liberals to being the first to rely on cussing. In general, I've noticed that liberals are very angry people, on the other hand there are some very angry conservatives too. I also recognize that my opinion might be skewed toward the conservative side, but the same goes for you. In fact, I just notice a LOT of heated feelings preceding this election, what everyone should remember is that no matter who wins we're still going to have to get along and work with eachother.

I think it's funny that when Cheney was going on about Edwards' fact-checking, he said to check out factcheck.com (and not factcheck.org, which is what he meant), so even he got his facts wrong. The really funny thing? Whoever owns the domain name factcheck.com has set it up so it forwards to www.georgesoros.com, a decidedly anti-Bush website.

I intensely dislike both maajor parties, and both available candidates. I am also highly disapointed with the crackpot extreemests who fill all the third-parties. Why is it so incredibly hard for an Intellegent Rational Moderate to run for office? I know such people exist! I know a few... I guess the saying is true; "Those who least wish to wield power are the most qualified to wield it."

Discarding all of the half facts and skewed data, ask yourself this. Are you any better off now than in 2000? I've had a tax cut (meant about $50 bucks in my pocket) and a pay cut (Over $50 less each week). I've had to worry about friends fo mine dying in Iraq, we have fewer real allies, the surplus is a huge defecit. Hm.

Even democrats have said that Cheney is usually there.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 4:07 PM

actually, kerry is going to be more likely to skrew over the entire planet than bush. Appeasement is a bad thing. A very bad thing.

Vote Lucifer MOrningstar in 2004- You definitelly know what you are getting!!

Though I wish I could add fule to either side of the argument, the parties this year both picked remarkably poor candates, and as the debates have shown, neither one is seemingly superior to the other. Granted, Bush's preformance at the first debate could just as easily been covered by a tape recorded statement and a remixer. However, what many fail to realize the Kerry was nothing sterling, his preformance polished from his days on debate club. Ah, no matter who goes in, I just hope that the country survives another four years. Do the right thing, Yoda for President 2004.

An American election should be basically a competition to see who's got the nicest hair. At least, that's how us non-Americans see it. When your politics start infringing upon us, that's when it's got to stop.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:49 PM

*sighs*
You know what? The only thing Kerry's got on Bush is Bush, and the only thing Bush's got on Kerry is Kerry.
I'm worried for the future of this country.

Moderates will not be chosen by political parties because they do not bring out the base. I was ignorant back in '00. I hope McCain tries again in '08.
(Yeah right, as if we'd be that lucky...)

Ok, I started reading this comic because it got linked of the PA or Machall site or some such, I'm about to graduate with a poly sci degree and am heade to grad school from there.
THe vast majority of these posts are so ridiculously inane that you all need to go take a political science class or five. Get an eduation, read the time or the post and dont buy internet conspiricy theories.

Aside from the sentiments by absolutely uninformed partisans on both sides, I had to comment on this one from, I'm assuming, a Canadian. The US elections effect you almost as much as, more likely drastically more then, your own elections do. Who cares if your frenchie population sucedes? We you are talking about the continuation of the second presidency or the beginning of the first term of the third in what is close to a unipolar environment. The reigns of a superpower who's string are no longer tied. Clinton actually bought all the touchy feeling liberalism stuff when interacting with the rest of the world. Bush doesn't. If you're looking for a stable twentyfirst century George Bush is not the right place to find it.

>>..I'm about to graduate with a poly sci degree and am heade to grad school from there.

Cute. Not to mention Impressive, oh yes. So, Mr. Soon To Be A Graduate Student, learn to A) spell, B) Write, and C) show some common courtesy for the people of other countries, rather than names like "frenchie population." Because golly-gee, that and your spelling sure convinces me you can make an authoritative argument.

...really. If you're going to try and be a rude condescending fuckwit-- then make it at least a *little* harder to mock you in return. Spellcheck doesn't take that long to run, sugar.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:00 PM

Does anyone here believe in correct spelling/grammar/ punctuation? Just curious.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:04 PM

I think it's more that people get annoyed with preachy condescending incompetants. General spelling really isn't that difficult once you complete a 5th grade or so education. On the other hand, there's Bush, so who knows.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:51 AM

lmao... You know, I've had people on my blog like that. They can't come up with any legitimate arguments, so they scan through posts and find errors, then accuse posters of being uneducated morons. Dude, that's just petty.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 6:09 AM

Uh, a lot of smart people have trouble spelling.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 7:15 AM

Yeah, while making fun of people for bad spelling is a fun thing to do, I dislike people who make that the only point of their argument. Particularly with a keyboard, it is easy for one to make mistakes. All it shows is that the writer didn't take the time to go back and reread his/her post to check. And in a post like this, it really doesn't matter. Now if it were a whole article or something, that would be different.
